Day 7: Monterey, CA -> San Francisco, CA

Our drive from Monterey to San Francisco was almost entirely along the PCH1, which winds along the coastal mountains and near ocean cliff edges, basically it is very pretty. We only stopped one time along the way at Peets Coffee shop, so we could fuel up for the fun day ahead in San Fran. Lombard Street (photo 1:view from street) is a very unique road in San Fran that has unbelievably tight switchbacks as you move down the large hill, so naturally we had to visit it first. Then, we drove across the golden gates bridge (photo 3) not once, but twice. As you know what goes up must come down, but in this case what goes across the bridge must come back. Our main activity tonight was the trip/tour of old federal penitentiary, Alcatraz. Tamara and I struggled with the chilly San Francisco Bay winds while on the island (photo #), even though we brought windbreakers, I can assure you that it did not break enough wind. Then to end the night, we tried In-N-Out to really feel like a true California local. It was very good, but I have to say I think I would have to stay true to my Whataburger roots. Also, I had to include a photo of my new cute, little friend (photo 5) and the most perfect fruit (photo 3&4) I have ever seen being sold at the pier. Tomorrow we move even further up the coast to Eureka, CA!

P.S: Papa and Mammie, The Golden Gate Bridge does have a fee for crossing the bridge, which it draws from the license plate. We thought about driving across the bridge about 10 more times, but decided we loved y'all too much. However this is your official warning if you see a small fee on the Subaru. :)
